Nature & Wildlife Tours in Bordeaux

If you want to escape the city buzz, Bordeaux offers some surprisingly beautiful nature and wildlife experiences that don't feel touristy at all.

One of my favorite escapes is the great Parc Bordelais in Caudéran. It’s the kind of spot where you’ll spot herons, woodpeckers and maybe even a shy fox if you’re quiet enough. Early morning walks here offer a real sense of calm that’s rare to find in or near a city.

And for something different, the nearby Bassin d’Arcachon isn’t just for beaches. You can join guided kayak tours through the oyster beds or hop on boat tours to spot migrating birds like flamingos and cormorants, especially around spring and autumn. I always recommend bringing binoculars and a camera with a zoom lens if you’re into birdwatching.

If vineyards are more your thing, don’t overlook the greener bits around Saint-Émilion, where the trails between the vineyard rows sometimes give way to areas full of wildflowers and butterflies early in the season. It’s a quiet reminder that Bordeaux’s nature isn’t just behind the wine glasses.

Pro tip: head out early or late afternoon to dodge crowds and get the best light for photography. And bring good shoes,some of these spots can get muddy after rain, which in Bordeaux, happens quite a bit!
