Description
The tour begins at 9:30 AM with pickup directly from your hotel or apartment in Bordeaux. This is a private experience exclusively for your group (up to 4 people), not shared with others. During the drive, the guide shares local stories and insights about the region.
The first stop is the Dune of Pilat, a 50-minute drive away. The group climbs the dune together via a natural sand trail favored by locals, avoiding crowded stairways. At the summit, enjoy panoramic views of the ocean, Landes Forest, sandbanks, Cap Ferret peninsula, and the Arcachon basin. Your guide explains the dune’s history, natural environment, and local legends, revealing perspectives known only to residents.
On the way to the harbor, the route passes through residential neighborhoods with pine forests and Belle Époque villas. The guide provides the unique history of Arcachon and the Bassin as envisioned in the 19th century.
At the oyster harbor, a walk through salt meadows leads to colorful wooden huts where oysters are cultivated. The guide details the oyster-farming tradition, a local industry as culturally significant as Bordeaux’s wine.
You then have about an hour of free time to explore the harbor independently and enjoy lunch (not included) by the water. Options include oysters, shrimp, or pâté, paired with white or rosé wine or local spring water. Your guide can recommend restaurants and help with ordering if desired.
The tour concludes with a return to your Bordeaux accommodation around 2:30 PM. It is fully adaptable to your group’s pace and preferences.
