Family-Friendly Experiences in Bordeaux

Bordeaux isn’t just about wine tastings and historic streets; it’s a surprisingly great spot to keep kids entertained too. The Quais along the Garonne offer plenty of space to run around, and my kids love watching the boats drift by while we grab a coffee. For hands-on fun, the Cap Sciences museum in the Bassins à Flot neighborhood is a winner. It’s got interactive exhibits that really grab the attention of little explorers without feeling like a chore for parents.

If you’re visiting in spring or summer, don’t miss the Jardin Public in the city center. There’s a playground, ducks to feed, and plenty of shady spots to picnic. And here’s a tip,stop by the local bakery for a fresh canelé and make a little snack break out of it. Also, the Bordeaux Natural History Museum might surprise you; it’s great for curious kids who like animals and fossils, with lots of displays that keep them busy for a good hour or two.

One more thing: avoid the weekends in the main tourist spots if you want a quieter experience with your family. Locals tend to head out of town then, so some places get a bit packed. Instead, take advantage of a weekday afternoon, and you’ll see Bordeaux in a totally different, laid-back light.
