If you're planning a day trip to the Bergerac area from Bordeaux this historic chateau with great value wine should be on your list. High up on a hill overlooking the Dordogne River and surrounded by vineyards is the beautiful Château de Tiregand. It is still owned and occupied by the decendants of the Countess François de St Exupéry.

The estate is believed to be founded in the 13th century by the natural son of England's Edward III, named Edward Tyrgan.The house is not open to the public but tours are made of the garden and terrace and the property is open to the public on France Heritage Days in September.The vineyard welcomes visitors all year round for tastings and on-sight sales of their medal winning wines.Good value.
