Wine Sales - Fronsac and Canon Fronsac Wine Experience

The red Château Grand Renouil wine can be found at the Château du Pavillon (photo). This is a delightful small family owned château in the southern part of the Fronsac appellation called Canon-Fronsac just east of Bordeaux on the right bank near the 'other wine capital', the town of Libourne. The Ponty family have 3 small vineyards under their umbrella.

They are set among stunning hills and if you drive up and behind Château de Pavilion you will survey vistas of vines with part of the Route de Santiago de Compostela winding through and down to the historic Dordogne river. The Fronsac area is truly the 'Secret Garden' of Bordeaux both for scenery and new wine discoveries!

The Canon-Fronsac nearby neighbours are Pomerol, Le Lande de Pomerol and Saint Emilion just a few miles to the east. Michel Ponty's family have been caring for this property since the early 1900's. The very respected, genial and modest M.Ponty is the present head of the Confrerie des Gentilshommes of Fronsac. This group, chosen by their wine making peers, are the ambassadors and guards of the Fronsac wine reputation. Who could better introduce you to the wines of Fronsac!

Behind these neat vineyards and across a busy road is the legendary Dordogne River. We learned from Michel that the Canon-Fronsac soil and slight elevation of the land on the banks of the Dordogne has advantages for the vines and ultimately the wine, especially during very hot summers. This appellation sometimes produces more balanced wines than some of the more famous Bordeaux appellations, even Saint Emilion.

The Canon-Fronsac area has historically produced the region of Fronsac's best wines. Phone ahead to Château du Pavillon (Château Grand Renouil wine) for a guided tour and tasting. M.Ponty will take you through a sampling of the red wines produced from Merlot grapes and a delicious white from 50% Sauvignon and 50% Semillion grapes. We enjoyed the reds and also found the 2010 white wine of Michel Ponty's labour particularly delightful - Blanc de Grand Renouil. You can see why regular Bordeaux customers return year after year for these wines.

The discovery of Château Grand Renouil wines will give you a most affordable and comparable alternative to the higher priced wines of Pomerol, Saint-Emilion and even Medoc plus the oportunity to learn more about this 'Secret Garden' of Bordeaux - the area of Fronsac.

Michel Ponty also has a wine shop, Pavillon of Fronsac, in the village of Fronsac where he represents his own and other wines and ships to many countries.
