Description

Start your day with a smooth pickup directly at the cruise terminal in Le Verdon, where our assistant will be waiting for you at the pier. They’ll help you board a comfortable, air-conditioned coach for the transfer to Bordeaux. The drive takes about two hours and follows a scenic route through the countryside and vineyards of the Médoc region. The transfer is scheduled to align with your ship’s timetable to ensure a relaxed, timely experience. Once in Bordeaux, you’ll meet your professional local guide for a walking tour of the city’s historic center. The old town is closed to traffic, which makes it ideal for exploring on foot. The guided tour includes regular stops for explanations, photos, and short breaks, covering approximately 3.5 kilometers (just over 2 miles) at a steady but relaxed pace. While most of the route is flat, some areas have cobbled or uneven surfaces, so comfortable walking shoes are recommended. Your first stop is Cathédrale Saint-André, a Gothic landmark where Eleanor of Aquitaine was married. The guide will explain the cathedral’s architecture, history, and its role in the city’s development. Next to it stands the Pey Berland Tower, which was built separately to protect the main structure. Please note we do not visit the Cathedral inside, the visit is only of the exterior. From there, walk to Place de la Bourse, an elegant 18th-century square that opened the city to the river and became a symbol of Bordeaux’s rise as a major port. Just in front is the Water Mirror, a shallow reflecting pool that alternates between still water and mist and has become one of the city’s most popular photo spots. The final stop of the guided portion is the Grand Théâtre, a neoclassical opera house that has been at the heart of Bordeaux’s cultural life for more than two centuries. The guide will share stories of its architecture and significance, pointing out the sculptures and columns along the way. After the walking tour, you’ll have 1 to 1.5 hours of free time to explore Bordeaux on your own. You can visit shops, relax at a café, try local specialties like canelés or oysters, or simply enjoy the city atmosphere. If you’re interested in wine, an optional tasting session is available at a nearby wine bar for €30 per person (payable on-site, no advance booking required). At the appointed meeting time, return to the designated spot to rejoin the assistant and group for the 2-hour drive back to Le Verdon port, arriving with plenty of time before your ship’s departure.
